How to paint a filing cabinet

No one wants to have the same old filing cabinet as everybody else. With help from International, an everyday object can find a new lease of life with individual style.

Step by step

  • Cover areas which you don't want to paint, for example the handles, with masking tape.
  • Prime the surface of the filing cabinet with International Japlac Primer and Undercoat. If the surface has been previously painted, remove any flaking material and spot prime bare areas. Follow instructions on tin and wait to dry before applying top coat.
  • Use International Japlac High Gloss Enamel in either a tin or aerosol. Follow instructions on the pot or can, remembering to lay a dust sheet in the surrounding area before painting. If you are using the aerosol, do so in a well ventilated area.
  • After the base coat is dry, here we used Japlac in Jet Black, use a contrasting colour to create a pattern. Here we drew a simple line in White Japlac, but the effects that can be made are endless with stencils or with a free hand if you are more artistic!
