How to paint a garage floor

The key to painting anything successfully is preparation - and this is particularly true when it comes to garage floors.

If the garage floor is new concrete, then leave it for a full month before attempting to paint it. In this time a coating of powder forms on the surface which will prevent the paint from adhering to the concrete if it is painted before that month's end.

  1. Roller
  2. Brush

Step by step

  • Thoroughly brush the garage floor, removing any loose material and ensuring no powdery residue is left over.
  • If you are painting onto bare concrete, you must seal the garage floor with International Concrete Sealer before painting. Follow instructions on the tin, and leave to dry for the allotted time. Apply two coats if necessary.
  • After the Concrete Sealer has thoroughly dried, apply Garage Floor Paint with a roller or brush. Follow instructions on tin and leave to dry for allotted time.
  • Garage Floor paint must be left to harden totally before any heavy objects are moved across it. Follow the instructions on the tin carefully or the paint will not be hard enough and can peel away.
