Magnetic Blackboard Paint

  • Surface preparation
  • Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from dirt, grease and other contaminants. Bare wood: Sand smooth and wipe clean. If necessary, cover any knots with International Knotting Solution and prime with an appropriate wood primer. Bare metal: Ensure the surface is free from rust. Prime with International Anti Rust Primer or another appropriate metal primer. Non-ferrous metal should be primed with a primer such as International Special Metals Primer. Previously painted surfaces: Remove any flaking or blistered paint and ensure bare areas are spot primed with an appropriate International primer. Sand down and wipe clean. Bare MDF: Sand smooth and wipe clean. Prime with International Quick Drying MDF Primer.
  • How to use
  • Stir well with a broad stirring stick to the bottom of the can. This is essential to ensure an even colour and finish. Apply 2-3 generous coats using a good quality brush. Alternatively, apply 6 generous coats using a foam roller. Allow the first coat to dry thoroughly before applying subsequent coats.
  • Cleaning
  • Remove as much paint as possible from brushes before cleaning. For best results use Polycell Brush Cleaner.
  • Health and safety

Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
  • Trade tip
  • Periodic application of further coats may be required to refresh the magnetic surface.
